So… I’m still trying to impress my bf. I want him to keep thinking I’m an amazing catch. I may be picking up around the house, working out in the yard, trying to look fresh at all times, etc. just to keep him interested. On my list of impressive-things-to-do is learn to cook amazing and unique food. You see, his mom and sister are practically master chefs. I don’t even know if that’s a real term, but they are that legit. I’m intimidated.

So check it: Once I happened to be making spaghetti so I could use up some left over veggies from this one time I had peeps over for home-made pizza. (I feel like I should explain that my mom made the pizza dough, so you don’t get all up in my grill about saying I don’t cook then spitting out two awesome meals I concocted). Anyway, the bf was getting out of class and gave me a call and asked what I was doing. I told him I was making spaghetti (spaghetti because I don’t need to impress myself with food). I ended up inviting him over to have some. Now, lemme take this opportunity to explain that this isn’t just noodles-and-sauce spaghetti, I added veggies people! And I think I even sautéed some chicken. It was as good as spaghetti gets. Well, he mentioned to his lovely madre that he was heading over to my house because I made him spaghetti. She wasn’t impressed. Anyone can make spaghetti. Eff!!! I wasn’t prepared! The spaghetti was just for me and it just happened to work out that he was available and hungry when I was cooking. Spaghetti was not the first impression meal I wanted to make. But… whatev. It was delicious. Impressive or not.

Fast forward to last Wednesday night. We made plans to watch RSL Soccer (did anyone see that game??? Awesome outcome for us!). I had a plan stirring in my head to impress him with delicious food. I wanted to make risotto. Risotto is delicious and I hear people say it’s kinda intimidating cause you have to stir the risotto for like 30 min or whatever. NBD, baby! So I printed off this recipe and he met me at the store to collect the cooking goods. Required ingredients, four boxes of crackers, one gallon of milk and a couple awkward moments (we simply can’t go to any store without something awkward happening) and we were on our way home and getting ready to cook. He is a champ and cooked with me. It was fun! And we nailed it! And the best part may have been that his mom called while we were cooking… I kept yelling “Jocine, we’re cooking! And it’s not spaghetti!” Then I’d say “Babe, tell her I’m cooking good food.” Maybe she was impressed? I don’t really know. I’d like to think I redeemed myself a smidgen.

Here’s the proof:

Cam cooking

The result! Delicioso!

Oh, and I should mention that we added tilapia. I think it made the dish.

Happy cooking!

So… I know I’ve been pretty MIA lately, I know. Deepest apologies. How about I make up for it by posting the last 10 pictures I’ve taken with the Vignette app on my phone? Deal? I’ll start with the most recent.

Um… HELLO why didn’t anyone tell me there is a Jimmy John’s right by my work? I discovered it on my way back from watching a recording of a vaginal birth and a c-section birth with a bunch of high schoolers. Cross THAT one off the bucket list.

On Tuesday, Jared and I went to the Carl Block exhibit at BYU. I snuck this picture during the drive down. The exhibit was incredible, touching, faith building, awe-inspiring. I loved it. And I loved that Jared and I can do things like that together!

Haha, this picture makes me laugh! I was naughty and took it during the rest hymn at church last Sunday. It’s really blurry because I was laughing when I tried to sneak it. You see, Jordan (left), and Chase (second from left) refused to sing. I kept poking them and tugging at my ear to show that I wanted them to sing louder. Jordan obliged, Chase did not. Oh, and hi Michelle! Love that girl.

Last Saturday Jared and I went to the Real game… it was FREEZING but SO MUCH FUN! Real played LA Galaxy (that Beckham dude plays for them) and apparently our 4-1 win was a big deal. I decided soccer games are awesomely rowdy with glitter, confetti, streamers, drums and chants. Just my style.

DOUBLE RAINBOW ALL THE WAY!!! What does it mean?? Okay, it was a single rainbow, but still.

Hold the press. Aren’t my new curtains STELLAR? Got the drapes from IKEA for like $15 for two. Then I had to jazz them up, so I did! I have to say, they look much more adorable now, cause they are tied, but you kinda get the idea here. Oh, and I have given that sad plant a hair cut since I took this pic, so it doesn’t have brown tips anymore. In related news, these curtains deserve their own post. I’ll do that.

Okay… I’m cheating a little. Here is a closer look at the fabric band I sewed on (wait, my mom sewed, but I cut them all!). This doesn’t count as one of my pics, okay? It’s my bloggy I do what I want!

I work at an awesome fabric store a couplefew (that’s a word, right?) days a week. This is an accidental picture from work. I kept it cause I think it’s kind of awesome.

Pretty snow! Can I just say I get suuuuuper annoyed when people complain about snow in March? It’s MARCH people! I’m pretty sure March is still winter… annnnnd I’m sure if I’m wrong, someone will tell me. Anyway, I love snow. I think it’s beautiful. As Jared would say “Tons of new freshie stashes up in the mountains to rip!”

Sometimes I like to take pictures of scriptures and sometimes I like to send them to Jared. This one I sent last week sometime. It’s a keeper, don’t you think? Alma 36:3 Learn more here.

My cute friend Sig deep conditioned my hair the other week. I posted this picture on the good old Facebook with the caption “To infinity, and beyond!” Facebook showed the loved.

There you have it! Don’t say I never gave you anything.

P.S. It’s fried eggs, fried eggs!!!

how you know

Wanna know how a girl know’s she has the best boyfriend OF ALL TIME???

It might be that he takes you to the Monster Truck Rally.

It might be that he makes you laugh 24/7.

It might be that he calls your roommate “Food Network” cause he can’t remember her name.

It might also be that he and the aforementioned roommate have agreed to have a “bro-mance.”

It might be that he writes you love letters when he takes his mom to Vegas for Christmas.

It might be that your mom wants to steal his Presidential Chia Pet.

It might be that he pretends like he knew who you were in high school cause you had English together and he thought you were super cute. (FYI, we did not have English together.)

It might be that he totally gets you.

It might be that he watches Jersey Shore with you and your other roommate and laughs at the insanity then vows to never watch it again, though you know he will be on your couch next week doing the exact same thing.

It might be that you’ve dated before, but this time there is nothing holding either of you back.

It might be that he loves the gospel.

It might be that he watches you pay your bills, helps you dismantle your Christmas tree and box it up, then lets you fall asleep on the couch… only to text you when he gets home: “Thanks for the amazing night! Probably one of the best nights of my life!” And he meant it.

It might be that, on your first date (the second time around) he inadvertently calls you a “slut.”

It might be that he makes you feel like you’re worth it.

It might be that he flips your dog the bird when he thinks you’re not looking.

It might be that you can talk with him about anything. And I mean anything.

It might be the fact that he harasses you relentlessly about wearing a “pirate” shirt and a sweater vest.

It might be that he makes you the happiest you can remember being.

It might be that he’s perfect… for me.

This conversation just happened in my office. We’ll call him Frank. I used to work with Frank until he moved to a new department about a year ago. He stops by and says hi to us every now and again.

Frank: “Hey Cambria, how are you doing?”

Me: “Oh, hey Frank! Pretty good, how have you been?”

“I’m doing pretty good. So… are you married yet or what?” (he asked me this every time we talk)

“Uh, no.”

“What? Why not? What’s the deal?”

“Well, we actually broke up. Like, last Wednesday.”

“Oh no! I’m so sorry… uh, man… I have really good timing, don’t I?”

“Oh, it’s alright. I guess it was just time, you know? It’s hard but it will be alright. So what about you, any babies yet?” (Did I mention he’s married?)

“Who me? Oh, no.”

“What? Why not? What’s the hold up?”

“We actually got divorced. Like, a month ago.”

“Oh, no Frank, I’m so sorry!”

“It’s okay… it was time.”

“Wow, we both have good timing, don’t we?”

And then we laughed. What are the odds?

“Well, I’ll see ya later Cambria.”

“Yeah, see ya Frank.”

Those were some of the last words he said to me. Those are the words that keep repeating in my mind. Over and over and over. “You go out and get what you want.” I’ve probably thought that phrase hundreds maybe a thousand times since Wednesday evening. “You go out and get what you want.” A chapter in my life has closed. A chapter many people had opinions about, but a chapter that I don’t regret. I loved him. I still love him. And I know he loves me. But we both knew from the beginning, we were different… and we knew that would make it hard. We had to give it a shot. Two years. We spent two years together. And we were happy. He helped me through some hard times. I helped him grow. We had our ups and we had our downs, but in the end we always loved each other. It was time. We both had to face what we’ve been avoiding for so long. It hurts. He told me “You go out at get what you want.” I want him. But I also want something he can’t give me. He wants me. But he also wants me to be happy. So where does that leave us? Closing a chapter. Opening a new one. I’m going to take his advise… but not right now. Not quite yet. I still hurt. I’m still a little bit confused. We did the right thing, right? Can’t we simply go on pretending it would work out forever? No, we knew this was right. We still know it but that doesn’t make it any easier. So I guess I just have to take his advise, one slow step at a time… and be thankful for what we had.

Did that just happen? 2009, I mean. Like, the whole year.

January: Spent zero dollars on clothing. That’s a fact.

February: Visited Michelle in Nebraska! Who would have ever thought I would visit Nebraska… not me. But it was awesome. Started Sweet Somethings with my momma.

March: Went to the Festival of Colors with Aub Bob. Won a photo shoot! Dressed up in 80’s garb and danced the night away.

April: Bought Screamin’ Mimi… aka my scooter. I love her.

May: Happy birthday to me! I got my adorable bicycle, Gigi. Ran my second ever half marathon. Bought my Nikon D60.

June: One word: Hawaii. I don’t even care about anything else that happened in June.

July: I love July. I love the 4th of July. I also love the 24th of July because I live in Utah. July holidays = Bliss.

August: Hong Kong. Macau. Bangkok, Thailand. Epic adventures.

September: Started a photography class, chopped my hair. I love both.

October: Took lots of pictures. Dressed up as a bumble bee.

November: Turkey, mashed, stuffed, etc. Times two.

December: Said good-bye to Elder Nash. Hello house fire. Christmas. New Year’s Eve.

If you’re lucky I’ll post about how I did on my goals for 2009 and fill you in on my goals for 2010. But only if you’re lucky.

Love you all!

xoxo Cambria

I can’t believe I forgot the second most hated thing on my list of hated things yesterday!

Disappearing.  I have (… er… had?) this amazingly great friend for the past four and a half years. Here’s the history of me and him in a nutshell: We started out dating, dated for 11 months, he dumped me but said he wanted to stay friends, that didn’t happen… we didn’t talk for three months, then I needed him (not “needed” needed him, but for reals needed him for something I had to do and was super scared to do.  He was one of the only people who could help me with it… I had to clarify), so I broke the ice, he helped me, he asked me out for my birthday a week later, he apologized for being a d-bag, then bada-bing-bada-boom we were friends!, my bff and confidant Aubrey was gone for a year and a half serving the Lord and this friend stepped up and helped me through the toughest decision I ever made and the hardest thing I ever did, he was an incredible support to me and someone I could always always count on, I start dating Beau and we stay friends because we’re friends, he starts dating a girl and tells me about every step in the progression of their relationship and we stay friends, he gets engaged to said girl and we stay friends, communication slows but I guess that’s expected (it’s not like we talked all the time), he tells me the gf gets mad when he talks to anyone female, he asks me for my address (twice) for my invite to the wedding because we are friends, I tell him a little about the awesome wedding present I was making for them, I go out of the country for about a month and while I’m gone he gets married, I come back to no wedding invite so I asked him why and he assured me he sent one and asks why I thought he wouldn’t invite me (?), I text him to ask him if I can bring their wedding present by and he says yes but we didn’t arrange a time, I notice we are no longer friends on Facebook so I text him to ask him why, no response, a few weeks later I text to ask if I could bring his wedding gift by that Saturday (twice), no response.  I guess we’re not friends anymore? 😦

Oh, and Melissa.

Shelby Lou Who tagged me!  Shelby and I became blog friends a little while ago and I think she is just the cutest thing since… spring.  Yes, spring.  She even bought one of my wallets wayyyyy back before we became blog friends so that makes her like ten times cooler (if that is even possible).  Now, I’m going to write a little note to my brother Mike, everyone else can skip straight to the lists.  Mike, do you even read this?  I want you to marry Shelby, okay?  I’ll get the introducing done and double with you guys for your first date so it’s not so awkward.  She even know’s our cousin Emilee… so Emilee can vouch for her awesomness, too.  kthanks.

5 Things I was doing 5 years ago

1. Wow… 5 years ago it was 2004.  I was three years into college… um… wow.  I feel old.

2. I was probably dating a really stupid guy.  I did that a lot.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.

4. I’m pretty sure I might have been hanging out with Michelle and MacLane A LOT.  Ohhhhh… those are two fun cats I tell you.  Now they are both married to awesome EC’s (Eternal Companions).

5. Living and learning.

5 Things on My To-Do-List

1. Pay Amber and Ty the remaining balance of my plane ticket to Hong Kong.  Oh, and the hotel.  I think I have like $1,000 left.

2.  Run, run, and more run!  The Ogden Half Marathon is in t-minus 15 days.  I’m really freaking out.

3.  Clean my room?  That’s always on my list.  Did you read that, mom?  Are you proud I’m at least thinking about it?

4.  Finish paying off the Federal Government. $600 left on that one.  Stupid taxes.

5. Pay off Scoot.  $940 left on that one!   Wow… I have accrued a lot of debt in the last few months.

5 Places I’ve Lived

1. “I lived in heaven a long time ago, it is trueeeeeee.  Lived there and loved there with people I know, so did youuuuuuu.”

2. My mother’s womb (for approximately 9 months)

3. Davis North Hospital (for a day or two)

4. Centerville, Utah (till I was 3.5 years old)

5. Kaysville, Utah (from 3.5 years till now!)

5 Things I Want to Be Doing in 5 Years

1.  Be married.  Wow… how generic and cliche of me to put marriage as my number one.  But come on, I don’t want to be a 31 year old single Mormon girl in Utah… talk about terrible odds!

2.  I’d like to have traveled to at least 5 new amazing places like Europe, New Zealand, New York, Hawaii, Japan, Australia, Florida, The Caribbean, etc.

3.  If I’m lucky enough for numero uno to work out would it be too much to ask for a kid or two?  Depending on timing, of course.

4.  I’ll be honest… it’d be really sweet if I wasn’t working.  Just keeping it real.

5 People I Tag

Collin & Jennise (they count as one…)

Amber & Ty (they count as one, too)
